Does university credit transfer impact 485 visa Australian Study Requirement?
I'm trying to figure out the rules for the Temporary Graduate (subclass 485) visa, especially concerning credit transfers. I initially began a master's degree at one Australian university under my student visa (subclass 500), completing about three months and earning 18 credit points. I've since transferred to a different university for a related postgraduate program. This new university has given me 36 credit points of advanced standing, meaning I only need to complete 60 credit points of their 96-credit degree.
My main concern is how this affects the Australian Study Requirement for the 485 visa. By the time I finish, I'll have physically completed 18 credit points at the first institution and 60 at the second, totaling 78 credit points of actual study in Australia. However, my degree will reflect 96 credit points, including the 36 credit points transferred. The total study duration will be around three months at the first place and about two years enrolled at the second, though one semester there will be very light due to the credits.
I'm wondering if the 485 visa assessment primarily looks at the actual duration of study (the 92 weeks or 16 calendar months) or the number of credit points physically undertaken. Will accepting the full 36 credit points cause problems for meeting the 485 eligibility? I'd really appreciate hearing from anyone who transferred between Australian universities and successfully navigated the Australian Study Requirement. Is it safer to decline some credit points and take additional subjects? I'm planning to consult a migration agent, but community insights would be incredibly helpful!
